Following the three succesful rounds of the HEA 101 training course that was given to stakeholders in involved in food security, risk and vulnerability management and livelihoods assessment, Wahenga is pleased to announce that it will be presenting another course in Cape Town from 28th to the 30th April 2015 (the last day is a half-day). If you do not live in Cape Town, this is a splendid opportunity to tack a long-weekend holiday visit to the Mother City just after the course is over (and just before winter!).

The course is aimed at managers and technical staff and shows how the HEA analysis works; it does not goe into details about how data are collected, etc.

The course will cost R6300 per participant and runs for two and a half days. The venue and further details will be announced soon.

Charles Rethman and I have attended an excellent meeting of the vulnerability assessment technical core group in Southern Africa. We are impressed by the high level of technical discussions and the organisation and preparation of the meeting.

IMG 1744Training and capacity building are necessary for getting effective vulnerability assessment systems functional. Practitioners need to know and understand the tools at their disposal and how these can be used to plug knowledge gaps in policies and programming. Sometimes they need to adapt, modify or develop variants of these tools.
